Introduction

I’m sure you know how challenging it is to start building a business from the ground up on your own.

Especially in the online space.

You’ve already come across many pieces of advice that sound perfect.

You’ve decided to go ahead with one, but couldn’t make much progress. You’ve hopped onto the next, but nothing changed. You’ve found another and told yourself “Third time's the charm”, but you got nowhere.

There’s a lot of noise out there.

People want to fast-track their way to success. That’s why you can see a lot of growth hacks, sleazy marketing tactics, and get-rich-quick schemes. Many have fallen for them.

Truth is, it takes time and effort to build up a strong foundation for your online business.

You might have years of experience from your 9-5 or freelancing days. But when it comes to the online business space, you’re playing a different game.

Hardly anyone knows you at the beginning of your journey.

Imagine a random person on the internet approaching you to sell something. Would you buy from them right away?

I wouldn’t.

You need that credibility to start your journey as a first-time solopreneur.

I’ve been there before and had to learn this the hard way.

That’s why I created this guide to help you kickstart your journey right away without wasting your precious time on:

  • Choosing the right niche

  • Figuring out the right content strategy

  • Building something that people don’t want

But wait…

Why should you listen to me?

Hey, I’m Beer.

I’m a former management consultant and I worked with billion-dollar companies in Asia to help them:

  • Conduct market assessments

  • Develop launch strategies

  • Build implementation roadmaps

I spent five years in this role but later realised I wanted something more fulfilling than building someone else’s dream.

So I quit my 9-5 job to start building mine.

In early 2023, I came across the idea of personal brand building on X which resonated a lot with me given how much leverage I know I can achieve with it in the online business space.

But getting started was a struggle.

I still remember the day I launched my first email course under my personal brand with barely any traction.

I had no clue how to start nor did I have a proper plan. I was testing out new approaches all the time. Some worked, some didn’t.

But in the end, I managed to scramble my way to 80+ subscribers and 68% average open rate after three months.

Still, there was too much friction. Promoting the course was a real grind and I felt like this wasn’t something my audience wanted back then. I built the wrong thing.

But after:

  • Doing countless hours of research

  • Getting on 62 interview calls with my audience

  • Giving consulting calls to 33 first-timer solopreneurs

I found an approach that’s sustainable in the long run.

It’s what will help a first-time solopreneur like you start to build trust, traction, and presence in the online business space right away.

That’s why I want to share it with you.

Everything in this guide comes from both mistakes and achievements I made throughout my journey studying the online business space, growing my personal brand, launching my email course, and helping others with strategy and execution.

You’ll go from confused to clear on your initial direction as a first-time solopreneur and become fully confident in taking the next steps of your journey.

  6. How to connect with your audience?

  7. What’s the ideal roadmap?

At the end, I’ve also created a roadmap that provides actionable steps based on all the insights from these chapters.

I highly recommend you go through everything in this guide first to understand the full approach and then use the roadmap to help you with the implementation.
