How to connect with your audience?
CHAPTERS
You might think launching an infoproduct is all about:
Finding out the right niche
Building the actual product
Delivering it to your audience
Although these are the key steps of this process, they are not everything.
Building a genuine connection with your audience is another crucial thing to focus on.
The following will help you progress much more smoothly and make the most out of this whole journey.
Showcase more personality
Build-in-public content is a great way to show your personal touch, especially when you compare this type of content to generic tips and how-tos.
But that’s only a glimpse of who you are as a person.
That’s why there are two more types of content I suggest you post regularly to show even more of your personality.
1. Opinion
This is the opportunity to share your unique points of view on the topics in your niche with your audience.
This kind of content can be very powerful as it shows your way of thinking and it’s something that differentiates you from the crowd.
You might feel reluctant to share your thoughts at first, especially if it’s something controversial or against the norms.
But go for it!
Your opinions might push some people away, but at the same time, you’ll attract others who resonate deeply with you.
And these are the ones who will become your real fans.
Just make sure what you share is what you truly believe in.
Don’t be polarising for the sake of it.
2. Worldbuilding
Your work is not always the reason why someone decides to follow you.
But sometimes, it’s because they can see themselves in you.
That’s why you also need this type of content to show:
Your lifestyle
Your hobbies
Your likes/dislikes
And this is how you can invite them into your world.
I’m not saying you should turn your account into a personal diary where you keep posting about your daily-life activities.
But make sure you still showcase yourself as a person from time to time.
Be known by being yourself.
Build a solid content plan
Now that you know all the different types of content you should be posting, the next step is to put them together into your weekly content plan.
This will make the content creation side of your journey so much more sustainable in the long run.
Here’s a simple plan I used when I first started building in public that you can follow to get started:
Monday → Build-in-public
Tuesday → Opinion
Wednesday → Build-in-public
Thursday → Opinion
Friday → Build-in-public
Saturday → Worldbuilding
Sunday → Worldbuilding
You can design your week in whichever way that best suits your schedule.
There’s no right or wrong here.
But the goal is to make it easy for you to stick with over the long run.
Just make sure you cover every type of content at least once every week so you can strengthen the connection with your audience on all fronts.
Grow your waitlist
If you’ve been following everything in this guide up to this point, you should have already attracted consistent traffic to your profile.
But your hard-earned traffic would mean nothing if you don’t act on it.
That’s why another important step is to get them onto your email list.
You can start growing this by sharing a waitlist opt-in form for your upcoming infoproduct first.
This is crucial for strengthening your relationship with them even further.
It sets up a direct communication channel between you and those interested in what you’re building which is more reliable than relying on the social media algorithm to deliver your content.
This way, it’ll be a lot easier for you to start building excitement leading up to the launch of your infoproduct, therefore, increasing your chance of success when launching.
In fact, I’d argue that you should start growing your waitlist from day one even before you start building the infoproduct itself.
Make it your priority.
Here are a few places where you can share the link to your opt-in form with a call to action (CTA) to start growing your waitlist:
On your social media bio
Across your personal website
Under posts with good engagement
In DMs with those who are interested
